Paul “Triple H” Levesque issued a public apology Wednesday after making lewd remarks about WWE star Paige, which ignited outrage on Twitter.
The former wrestler, who has been the WWE’s executive VP of talent, live events and creative since 2013, made the comments earlier this week while discussing the futures of Edge and Paige — two superstars whose careers were derailed by neck injuries.
“When you’re talking about people as talented as Edge, Paige, who wouldn’t want them to return, I’m a fan just like everyone else,” Triple H said at the time. “I would love to see them step into the ring and compete. More importantly than that though, I would love to see them live long, healthy lives. Edge has kids, Paige — maybe — she probably has some she doesn’t know of.”
The comments were particularly harsh given that Paige’s life was rocked by a sex tape scandal.
“Even my boss jokes about me… no wonder you guys still do it too,” Paige tweeted.
The floodgates soon opened after that, with commenters issuing their support for Paige while chastising Triple H for his choice of words.
“Didn’t think it could be bad.. but holy crap I’m so sorry he said that. That’s not a joke, the intent and what he implied was horrible, you have good fans who do really love you. Please pay attention to them your family and non of the negativity. You already said 2020 is yours,” one fan replied.
“This was disappointing by HHH and lacked class,” another posted.
“This is bulls–t. Not a right thing to say about anyone, thought better of HHH,” one commenter shared.
Triple H stated Wednesday he reached out to Paige to apologize for the “terrible joke.”
