A panel of experts looks back on Chris Eubank versus Nigel Benn
Three-time world title challenger
Before their first fight, I thought Eubank was going to win, but I wasn’t bothered. I just wanted to face the winner. To me, it didn’t matter who it was. I saw similarities between them. As long as I stayed away from their big punches, I would’ve given both of them a boxing lesson. I still believe that to this day.
Promoter, trainer and manager
Naturally I remember the two fights – I was at both of them. But what I remember the most about Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank is that they both came to see Dean Francis in Bristol shortly before he died. That is the real mark of those two men.
Benn’s former manager
Confronting the silly rules of the BBB of C which, up until two days before the fight, dictated that I couldn’t be in the corner. But we got that changed and it was all systems go. We were able to put on a show that was on a par with anything else in history. It’s still being revered today.
Ex-British & C’wealth champ
The first fight in particular was a brutal one. It was full of action for the fans to enjoy. I think a lot of that was to do with the fact that there was so much bad blood between the two of them. You don’t seem to get that as much these days. A lot of fighters now say that it’s just business, but it was personal for those two.
