The Buccaneers used their first-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft on wide receiver Mike Evans. They used the first overall pick the next season on quarterback Jameis Winston. In five years together, the pair became the most prolific aerial connection in franchise history. They became friends. They envisioned playing the bulk of their careers together.
So, how has Evans reacted to the news that Tom Brady will be leading Tampa Bay next season?
“Bro, I’ve been on that Hennessy, man,” Evans said while playing Fortnite on the Twitch live-stream app. “I’m drinking. I’ve got Tom Brady, you know what I’m saying?”
Evans has never made the playoffs. The Bucs haven’t been to the postseason since 2007. As New England’s starting quarterback, Brady hasn’t missed the playoffs since 2002, winning 11 straight AFC East titles.
“It’s surreal,” Evans said. “He’s about to be my quarterback, bro. I know you don’t know football like that, but I’ve played six years in the NFL, and I haven’t been to the playoffs yet. Tom Brady has won six Super Bowls.”
Almost exclusively playing with the erratic Winston during his NFL career, Evans has posted over 1,000 yards during each of his six seasons, while being selected to three Pro Bowls. Evans, 26, expects to enjoy even more success alongside the four-time Super Bowl MVP, who instantly upgrades to one of the best receiving corps of his career, which also features 24-year-old Chris Godwin, who ranked third in receiving yards in the league last season.
