Chris “Mad Dog” Russo hasn’t lost his fastball after all of these years.
The Sirius XM “Mad Dog Radio” host blasted the New York Giants and John Mara on Tuesday for not making Matt Rhule their next head coach. Rhule on Tuesday received a seven-year deal worth $60 million from the Carolina Panthers, with incentives potentially taking it up to $70 million, according to ESPN.
Later in the day, the Giants agreed to a deal with 38-year-old Joe Judge, who was the special teams coordinator and wide receiver coach for Bill Belichick’s Patriots.
A source told The Post’s Paul Schwartz the Giants were “blown away” by Judge after his interview on Monday and that he emerged as a serious candidate. They called his agent that night to say how well he had done, but no contract talk was made. But in the Giants’ minds, the bar was set and Rhule would have to beat out Judge.”
Apparently, “Mad Dog” isn’t buying it.
He said the Giants paid Ben Mcadoo and Pat Shurmur fortunes and that they’re paying them for sitting “on their asses,” and could have afforded to pay Rhule, too.
“(They) paid them a fortune!” Russo ranted. “Now the Giants are going to say well hold on now, $62 million is too much money. Screw that I don’t want to hear it. They make a fortune as a team.
McAdoo, who only lasted 28 games was fired with two years remaining on his contract, and Shurmur was canned after the second year of a five-year deal.
Russo said the beleaguered fan base isn’t getting what they pay for.
“Those PSL’s seat licenses. Those poor 80,000. … I did it, I know … (they) have to pay a fortune just to have right to get a season ticket. Then they get billed 10 games a year because of those two asinine exhibition games.”
Russo also said he has no sympathy for John Mara when it comes to the Giants’ finances for paying coaches.
“And I’m going to worry about John Mara because he’s gotta pay Matt Rhule $60 million because the guy in Carolina paid it,” Russo said. “Tough, if he’s the guy, pay it.
“Well, that’s not the way Giants do business. Well, screw that. Wellington Mara didn’t give out PSLs, either and Wellinton Mara didn’t make you pay for exhibition football games, either, long, long ago.”
Russo said he believes the Giants didn’t work hard enough to get the Baylor coach.
“It’s the way it works. Somebody else wanted him,” he said. “Your job is to make sure if you liked him, that you got him. You didn’t even get to first base. INEXCUSABLE!
“These are the New York Football Giants. Tim Mara’s Giants. Wellington Mara’s Giants. Not Steve Tisch’s Giants. Wellington Mara and Timmy Mara! Tim Mara bought the Giants for $500 bucks in 1925.”
“Mad Dog” concluded his rant by saying money should never be an issue for Mara and the Giants.
“You know what John Mara can sell that franchise for right now — his half of it — what about a billion? He’s made some money. Don’t worry about John. John’s in good shape. He can fly anywhere he wants. He can own Caribbean Islands.
“If it was $60 million for Matt Rhule. Pay it. Now!”
