Browns fans are no longer alone in Emily Mayfield’s crosshairs.
Following the Browns’ 20-13 loss to the Steelers on Sunday, Baker Mayfield’s wife called out Cleveland beat reporter Mary Kay Cabot over a question regarding head coach Freddie Kitchens’ “Pittsburgh Started It” T-shirt, in response to the Nov. 14 brawl between the two teams.
“Why is this the focus of your questions? 🤔 MUCH more to focus on than that…. @MaryKayCabot,” Emily tweeted Sunday night in response to Cabot’s post, which noted that Kitchens would wear the polarizing shirt again.
Cabot responded to Emily early Monday morning, tweeting: “I asked exactly one t-shirt question after the game. I asked Baker what he thought of it, and he defended Kitchens, which I thought was pretty cool. He gave a great answer, saying ‘I’ve done much worse.’ Funny, and struck the right note.”
On the subject of football, Mayfield’s performance in Sunday’s showdown was far from memorable. The Browns quarterback completed 18 of 32 attempts with one touchdown and one late interception that sealed the game, and briefly left the game at the end of the first half after hurting his throwing hand. Mayfield said the team has to “get back to a singular focus” in regards to playoff hopes.
“We can’t control the things on the outside. We have to take care of our business, and that’s all we really can focus about,” he said postgame.
The 5-7 Browns have another AFC North showdown on Sunday as they’ll face a Bengals team looking for its second win of the season after beating the Jets on Sunday.
