Alabama’s hopes of making the College Football Playoff ended with a bang – off the upright.
Joseph Bulovas saw his potential game-tying field goal from 30 yard hit off the left upright with 1:49 remaining in the game, allowing No. 15 Auburn to hang on for a 48-45 win over the No. 5 Crimson Tide in the Iron Bowl on Saturday.
The loss likely ensures Alabama, playing its second game without quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, will not reach the playoff for the first time since its inception in 2014.
Bo Nix completed 15-of-30 passes for 173 yards and a touchdown and JaTarvious Whitlow rushed for 114 yards and a score for Auburn. Mac Jones, Tagovailoa’s replacement, went 26 for 39 passing for 335 yards and four touchdowns.
